About Me

Hello World!
My name is Gerard, I am a human being and a Nature enthusiast. I am originally from latitude 41.390205 and longitude 2.154007 of planet Earth, located within the Orion Arm of the Milky Way galaxy. I am an active, collaborative and curious individual who happens to also be a physics researcher. I have created this website with the intent of sharing some of the things I am deeply passionate about. As the site shapes up, I am hoping for it to be a space to connect with other individuals to learn, teach, discover, exchange ideas, organise activities, or merely enjoy Nature together.
Scientific Overview
Gauge Fields and Quantum Matter Researcher

(Scientist) Gerard is a Doctor in Theoretical Quantum Physics currently holding a postdoctoral researcher position at Institut d’Optique Graduate School (IOGS) in Bordeaux, as part of the Naquidis initiative for Disrupting Quantum Products. He is collaborating with both the Mathematics Institute of Bordeaux (IMB) and the photonic quantum computing company QUANDELA.
(Scientist) Gerard pursued a Physics Bachelor’s at Universitat de Barcelona. After a short Erasmus in Amsterdam, some undergraduate research in extragalactic astrophysics and a brief project on computational neuroscience, he enrolled on a Master of Multidisciplinary Research in Experimental Sciences by the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). During this time, he worked on the quantum simulation of quantum field theories in curved spacetimes at ICFO and black hole phase transitions at IFAE. He then moved to Scotland, where he earned his PhD on the “Properties of Gauge Fields and Quantum Matter” at Heriot-Watt University under the supervision of Prof. Patrik Öhberg.
(Scientist) Gerard considers himself a theoretical physics generalist. His research interests revolve around interacting many-body systems and gauge fields. This has led to past and current projects on quantum error correction, gauge theories, quantum simulation of synthetic gauge fields and gravity, dualities, fractionalisation of quantum numbers and low-dimensional topological quantum matter.
Non-Scientific Overview
Outdoors Enthusiast

(Non-scientist) Gerard is passionate about outdoors activities and movement. He enjoys playing tennis, trail running, mountain biking, climbing and snowboarding. He has a bit of a soft spot for salsa dancing and has fun in music concerts of all sorts. (Non-scientist) Gerard is also curious about how people in different parts of the world live and interact. He is very much a foodie, and fancies discovering rather unconventional dishes and flavours. Even though he prefers eating, he is trying to perfect his cooking skills, since it is only through the mastering of his tortilla de patatas that he will be allowed to return to his motherland. But ultimately, Gerard likes meeting old and new people and sharing with them all the things mentioned above, sometimes at the cost of (over)sharing his enthusiasm for Nature and Science.
