Picture of a blackboard in one of R.P. Feynman’s lectures at Caltech. The title reads “The same equations have the same solutions”. This was used as emphasis for different physical scenarios that have the exact same description. The example of electrostatics’ analogues is used. We observe that the electric Gauss’s law, the heat diffusion equation, the equation for a stretched membrane and, that of an incompressible and irrotational flow of water, have all the same equation. Therefore they all have the same solutions and one can formally use analogous reasoning or a translation between the properties of the different systems. This can be appreciated in the different cells of the table shown.
